Carson City Public Works Transportation Division oversees the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC), staffs the Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), and operates Jump Around Carson (JAC), the city’s public transit system.

Regional Transportation Commission (RTC)

The RTC, comprised of five members who also represent CAMPO, establishes priorities and recommends appropriate funding for transportation improvement projects within Carson City. The RTC meets the second Wednesday of every month after the Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization Meeting in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, and Carson City residents are welcome to attend these meetings.

Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO)

The U.S. Census Bureau designated the Carson City urbanized area in 2002. In 2003, the Governor of Nevada designated CAMPO as the agency responsible for metropolitan transportation planning in the Carson City urbanized area, which consists of Carson City, northern Douglas County, and western Lyon County.

CAMPO Staffing

In addition, Carson City Public Works employees provide the staffing for the CAMPO operations.

The Transportation Manager is the principle staff person for administration of all CAMPO activities. The transportation planners primarily prepare federally required CAMPO planning documents and are responsible for completing CAMPO's Unified Planning Work Program. The Transit Coordinator is responsible for verifying and applying for FTA and FHWA funds, and is the primary contact person for duties related to CAMPO's role as the Designated Recipient and Grantee. The Transportation / Traffic Engineer plans and directs traffic engineering and transportation activities.
